International Day of Indigenous People

International Day of Indigenous Peoples of the World is set on Dec. 23, 1994 UN General Assembly. On this day in 1992, the first meeting of the Working Group on Indigenous Populations of the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights. Took place in 1994-2004 the International Decade of Indigenous People. In its resolution of 20 December 2004, in which the Assembly proclaimed the International Decade of the Friend of World's Indigenous People (2005-2014), she also decided to celebrate during the Second Decade of United Nations Headquarters in New York, Geneva and other UN offices each year International Day of Indigenous Peoples.
In 2004, the United Nations proclaimed the International Decade of the Friend of indigenous peoples of the world since January 1, 2005, which aims to further strengthen international cooperation in solving problems faced by indigenous peoples of the world in such areas as culture, education, health, human rights, leisure and social and economic development.
