Geographical lacation

A city is situated in south-western part of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, occupying  the central part of Ukrainian Carpathians within the limits of the pokutsko-bukovynski mountains,  Gorgan  mountain, and Chernogori.

Yaremche belongs to the category of cities of regional subordination and as administrative unit includes also such towns as Vorokhta, Tatariv, Mykulychin,  Yablunytsa, Voronenko, Polyanytsa. On the base of these towns  Mykulychynska, Yablunytska and Polyanytska local governments are formed. The village  Voronenko is included  into Yablunytska authority. Therefore territory of  Yaremche with inferior settlements is named territory of Yaremchanska local government . All of settlements have status of alpine and subsumed resort.

A total area of this territory is 65 665 hectares, therefore:

Agricultural lands ¬- 6 949 hectares,

industry and transport territory – 308 hectares,

 water territories - 505 hectares.

 Almost a half of this area( 31 hectares) the Carpathian national nature park occupies.  A basic waterway is river prut.

The  basic feature of geographical location there is that the unique substantial production resource is a natural complex with considerable recreation potential. Another favourable factor is small distance to the  four European states boundaries.

A city has the developed  transport connection (train and motor-car) with other cities of Ukraine and foreign country. Distance (on a motorway) from Yaremche

 to  Kyiv —  600  km,

to Ivano-Frankivsk —  70  km,

 to the border with Romania —  80  km,

 to Hungary, Slovakia, Poland —  280  km

Territory of Yaremchanska local government is one of the most important recreation districts of  Carpathians regions and Ukraine on the whole.

Natural conditions

As for the geology Yaremchanschyna  belongs to plicate Carpathian Mountains.

Western part of the territory is located within the limits of Gorgan Mountain, middle heights hesitate in limits from 400 to 1542 m.

Eastern part of territory is occupied by Pokutsko-Bukovynski Carpathians - the highest point is 1325 metres .

Extreme southern part is northern slopes of Chernogora.

The climate is moderately continental. The continental climate increases from the north to the south. The winter is moderately soft, an average temperature of January is - 4,3-7 °C. Fogs and thaws are frequent in this territory. Warm period begins in the second half of March. An average temperature of summer months is +18 °C (the highest is +28 °C).

River Prut is the main waterway of the city with its riverhead at the north slopes of Chernogora on a height over 1750 metres. The most important left tributaries are: Prytets Yablunytskiy(16 km), Zhonka and Kamianka; right tributaries are Piga (11 km), Prutets Chemerivskiy (21km).

Greater part of the territory is occupied by the forests, mainly mixed fir-tree, and in higher points (1100- 1200 meters) clean spruce forests prevail. Beech forests with the admixtures of sycamore, ash, elm, silver fir and fir-tree are widespread on the slopes of mountain ranges up to the height of 500-600 meters. Pine-tree with the admixtures of birch and fir-tree grows up on the slopes of Gorgan Mountain. In the natural boundaries Kedruvate and Gadzhyna a relict cedar pine-tree are saved. Such combination of the coniferous and leafy forests creates extraordinarily picturesque landscapes, especially in spring and autumn.

There are considerable possibilities for resort treatment on the base of mineral waters on the territory of Yaremche local government. Two kinds of mineral water are found near Yamna village:

-  chloride hydrocarbonate natrii water of low salinity with the high content of organic acidity ("Naftusya");

-  sodium  bicarbonate water of low salinity ( "Brusnitska", "Mirgorodska").

The territory of this region is characterized by the richness and variety of flora and fauna species and a lot of them are unique.
